Software Measurement European Forum 2008

  

 
La maggior parte delle rilevazioni condotte sulle imprese e organizzazioni pubbliche continuano a sottolineare che i progetti software sono ancora troppo inclini al fallimento. Sforamento delle scadenze temporali o di budget sono eventi molto comuni nel mercato e molti progetti di software vengono ancora cancellati prima di fornire qualsivoglia risultato utilizzabile da parte dei committenti. Quando si presenta una situazione di eccesso di uso del budget o del tempo disponibile questa può essere dovuta a 3 fattori principali:
  • Le risorse sono state sottovalutate all'inizio del progetto;
  • Le risorse sono state adeguatamente stimate all'inizio, ma il progetto è stato gestito male e la maggior parte di esse sono state sprecate;
  • Le risorse sono state adeguatamente stimate all'inizio, ma l'ambito (scope) di applicazione del progetto è cambiato in un modo non adeguatamente gestito.

 

La misurazione del software può essere di grande aiuto nel far percepire e aiutare a gestire i rischi di progetto. Alcune delle relazioni presentate in questo convegno tratteranno il tema principale fornendo spunti, metodi, strumenti e riferimenti per approfondire la relazione tra misura e gestione del rischio. Accanto al tema principale saranno trattati i classici argomenti delle misure di qualità, della misura funzionale, del benchmarking e della stima dei costi di progetto. Il Forum 2008 prende in considerazione tutti i temi introdotti e li organizza intorno alle seguenti sezioni:

  • Management by metrics
  • Software Quality Measurement
  • Function Point Analysis (IFPUG-COSMIC)

Most of the surveys conducted on businesses and public organizations continue to stress that software projects are still too prone to failure. Budget or time overrun events are very common in the market and many software projects are still cancelled before providing any result usable by the commissioners. When a situation of excessive use of budget or time comes true, this can be caused by 3 main factors:

 

  • The resources were underestimated at the beginning of the project;
  • The resources were properly estimated at the beginning, but the project was poorly managed and most of them were wasted;
  • The resources were properly estimated at the beginning, but the scope of the project has changed in a manner not adequately managed.

The measurement of software can be a great help in improving uncertainties perceptions and helping manage the risks of a project. Some of the reports submitted in this conference will deal with the main theme by providing ideas, methods, tools and references to deepen the relationship between measurement and management of risk. In addition to the main theme speakers will deal with the classic subjects of the measurement of quality, functional measurement, benchmarking and estimating project cost.
